Manufacturing has long been at the heart of our city region economy. Our excellence in ship-building continues today, we are world-leaders in chemicals, vaccines and pharmaceuticals, in fact we are Europe’s biggest bio-manufacturing cluster, and we are home to one of the world’s premium vehicle manufacturers and numerous automotive supply companies.
We are home to some of the world’s leading manufacturing brands, most of which are members of one or more of the LRC Chambers of Commerce, from Jaguar Land Rover; Ford; Unilever; Pilkington; Cammell Laird; AstraZeneca; and Magna to name just a few.
Manufacturing supports nearly 50,000 people in 3,000 companies and directly contributes over £3bn to the overall economy.
The sector is a mix of traditional industries and cutting-edge modern manufacturing. Industrial digital technology companies sit alongside clean growth businesses. We are leading the way on Industry 4.0 and we’ve got the largest supercomputing facility for industrial applications in the UK and the highest concentration of robotics for materials science in the world. We are also making waves in Supercomputing; Robotics; Virtual Reality; Internet of Things; Sensors; Big Data and Big Science.
LCR Chambers of Commerce support many of the manufacturers and suppliers across the City Region. There are also a number of strong and engaging manufacturing groups such as The Knowsley Manufacturing Network, Chaired by Beverston Engineering.
